Disney severed its business relationship with Guardians of the Galaxydirector James Gunn on Married Woman Fan Club (2020)Friday. Let's see how long it lasts.
The deeply unpopular move has been greeted with everything from confusion to condemnation in various corners of the internet, including the one that may matter most: Guardiansfam social media.
SEE ALSO: At Comic-Con, mixed feelings on James Gunn's firing from 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3'Taking a cue from weekend shows of support for Gunn from his brother (and Guardianscast member) Sean, Drax actor Dave Bautista, and Yondu actor Michael Rooker, many of the series other stars and supporting players have now weighed in. Some mention Gunn by name, others are more cryptic. But the overarching message is clear: We've got each other's backs.

It's not clear if or how Disney intends to respond in light of all the support Gunn has received. But it sure seems like a full-blown revolt is brewing as key Guardianscast members digest the news that their director was summarily canned.
Disney took the move of firing Gunn after a series of offensive tweets from the filmmaker's past -- vile stuff, that made jokes out of things like pedophilia and AIDS -- resurfaced in the online conversation. The tweets have been a known quantity for years, but they were weaponized by malicious actors to compel Disney into taking action.
While Gunn's past comments have no place in any civilized society, the fact that he long ago owned his bad behavior, apologized for it, and evidently worked in the time since to better himself hasn't escaped the notice of rational observers. Many feel that the circumstances around his firing were the product of a poor decision by Disney.
It's clear from the tweets above (as well as the others that surfaced over the weekend) that many members of the Guardians of the Galaxycast feel the same way.
