Prolific author and poster Stephen King left X for Meta-owned Threads this week, stating, "I'm leaving Twitter. Tried to stay, but the atmosphere has just become too toxic."

He also mentioned X's new terms of service — specifically that legal disputes must be fought in a rural court in Texas — as a contributor to his decision.

Other celebrities, such as singer Elton John and TV producer Shonda Rhimes, quit X years ago after Musk's takeover.
