Warning: Contains icy spoilers for Game of ThronesSeason 7,Rolls Royce Baby Episode 6.
You've probably already seen the trailer for next week's Game of Thronesepisode, but it might be time to watch again.
SEE ALSO: 'Game of Thrones' fans have deciphered the hidden note Arya found in Ep 5In particular, pay attention to the very brief shot of the Hound casually crush the skull of this dead guy (it takes place around the 0:31 mark):
Via GiphyOn the surface, it seems like harmless fun. There's nothing more entertaining than watching Sandor cracking his opponent's heads open, right?
Well, maybe. But the shot also contains a worrying clue.
As Redditor pepperedpete pointed out, the weapon Clegane's wielding could have some unpleasant consequences for another member of his party.
There's no getting away from it: the Hound is definitely using a hammer in that shot.
The question is, is it Gendry's hammer?
Some people thought not:
On closer inspection, I'm not so sure.
If you look at the following side-by-side, the hammers dolook pretty similar:
So why is this a bad thing?
Well, if Sandor's holding Gendry's hammer at some point in the next episode, the implication is that Gendry is weaponless -- quite possibly because he's already been killed.
To make matters worse, just before the shot of the Hound wielding that hammer there's another shot of him standing with his companions in a circle -- and this time he's holding a sword:
So how worried about Gendry should we be?
Well, all we know right now is this: at some point in Episode 6, the Hound ditches his sword and for whatever reason exchanges it for what is most probably Gendry's hammer.
It's a long way from clear proof that Gendry is going to snuff it.
But still: at this stage in the game, Gendry's character is only a minor one. Like Osha and Rickon, he's essentially a loose end from an earlier season that the showrunners need to tie up before everything comes to a close.
And if the voyage beyond the wall is going to be as dramatic as the trailer promises, a couple of the seven characters in Jon Snow's gang are going to have to die.
At the moment Gendry looks like one of the likeliest candidates.
