Trump stormed to victory with 306 electoral votes to Clinton's 232 electoral votes. At the same time, Clinton has won the popular vote by more than 2.5 million votes so far, and recounts are underway across three U.S. states.
And while it may seem impossible, technically speaking, the Electoral College could still elect Clinton as president.

"On December 19, the electors of the Electoral College will cast their ballots. If they all vote the way their states voted, Donald Trump will win," Daniel Brezenoff, organizer of the petition, wrote. "However, in 14 of the states in Trump's column, they can vote for Hillary Clinton without any legal penalty if they choose."
So the petition is asking the 149 electors in those 14 states to ignore their states' votes and vote for Clinton, citing the wide margin by which she's won the popular vote.
"Mr. Trump is unfit to serve," the petition reads. "His scapegoating of so many Americans, and his impulsivity, bullying, lying, admitted history of sexual assault, and utter lack of experience make him a danger to the Republic."
Leading the way for Clinton believers, the petition seems like a last hope for a lot of people, and has received lots of celeb endorsements on Twitter.

The Trump-won states where electors could still vote for Clinton do not have laws against so-called "faithless electors," those who decide to vote against the candidate who won the state they're in, according to FairVote, a nonprofit for free elections.
Since the Electoral College was found in 1787, just 157 people have been faithless electors. And 71 of those people changed their votes because the original winning candidate died before Electoral College votes could be cast.
The last time an elector didn't vote for the candidate their state chose was in 2004, when an anonymous elector in Minnesota was supposed to vote for Democratic candidate John Kerry but voted for his VP running mate, John Edwards. It was thought to be a mistake.
For Clinton to get elected, that just needs to happen 14 times, with those people also switching political parties.
