The Washington Times, a conservative daily paper, exposed Ocasio-Cortez's reasonably priced hair maintenance on Wednesday night. According to "sources familiar with the salon," the paper says, the congresswoman spent roughly $80 on a cut and $180 on lowlights at Last Tangle in Washington.

"The self-declared socialist, who regularly rails against the rich and complains about the cost of living inside the Beltway, spent nearly $300 on her hairdo at a pricey salon she frequents in downtown Washington," the Washington Times complained.

The Washington Timesalso took issue with the fact that Ocasio-Cortez was not taking advantage of subsidized Senate Hair Care Services, a secretive salon in the basement of the Russel Senate Office Building. Although the salon has been criticized for being a frivolous expense to taxpayers, Jeff Sessions still gets his $20 cuts there.

Ocasio-Cortez declined to comment for the Washington Timesstory, but responded to a tweet joking about how democratic socialists like Bernie Sanders and herself daredto partake in capitalist practices like buying goods and services.

"The right-wing want you to blame Democratic socialism for their own moral failures," she said in a quote tweet. "Our policies, like Medicare for All, advance prosperity for working people. They're just made we look good doing it."
