"Came as a bit of a surprise actually, because I wasn't expecting anything to happen so quickly," Hester told the news outlet.
When John popped the question, however, he didn't go down on one knee. "I would need two people to lift me up," he said. Instead, the couple decided to both pick the ring together from a jeweler.
The newlyweds married in a small ceremony with 20 members of their family and friends, then went to honeymoon in Tasmania.
"I'd advise anybody in the same situation to go ahead and [do it]," Hester said.
It's never too late for love, folks.
